Question: Holy Spirit, I have been receiving lots of questions about guidance this week, and I don’t feel I can answer them well. All of the questions seem to be coming from people who have a sincere desire to surrender and follow your guidance, but what is and isn’t guidance doesn’t always seem clear. I know this is a reflection of my mind.
So right now, Holy Spirit, I erase everything I ever thought I knew about guidance, and I ask you, dear Teacher, to please teach us how to follow you.
Answer: The first answer about following guidance is the putting aside of fear. One cannot follow guidance if one chooses to believe fear, because the one will be much too willing to follow the voice of fear, and that is not the Voice of surrendered guidance.
The way to put fear aside is not to deny it and not to believe it simultaneously. This means that one may feel great fear, but feeling fear is not the same as believing it. Feeling fear is the effect of having believed it in the past, but now is a new moment and one can feel the effects of past belief while also choosing to believe differently now.
This is a time of trust. When one trusts, one chooses to know that one is always safe regardless of the appearance. And one also chooses to know that if this safety does not appear evident to the mind now, it is only because the mind is covered over by misperception. When misperception is undone, inherent safety is all that can be seen.
When one is choosing trust during a time of feeling fear, one must be willing to take small steps and follow small prompts. If one is willing to trust and take one step at a time, one will be led steadily out of fear. But if one wants to run wildly out of the experience of fear, one is driven by fear in this desire, and so the effect shall be the manifestation of more fear.
Rest, accept and trust are the best ideas during an experience of fear. That, and be willing to follow very small prompts in order to be led from fear to a more comfortable point of surrender.
Question: Thank you. How about when we feel we are at a comfortable point of surrender, but we aren’t certain what to do?
Answer: When you are not certain what to do, you are not at a comfortable point of surrender. You are in fear, but your fear is denied. This is a time to ask to see your fears so you may face them, release them and move on to a more comfortable point of surrender.
Your fear may come from a variety of source ideas. You may feel you are not worthy of guidance. You may fear that the world is truth and the truth is not true. Any number of fears can keep you stuck and feeling uncertain about what to do. So recognize that the feeling of being stuck or unsure is a symptom of fear, and ask Me to help you look at your fears.
Question: Holy Spirit, we understand that guidance can come as a feeling of being in the flow and simply moving from one thing to another, but lately there have been some questions about the flow. It seems that sometimes (or often) what we feel to do comes from ego or hidden beliefs in the mind. How do we know when our flow is driven by ego, and when we are in the flow with you?
Answer: Again, I ask you to look at fear around this question. There is a fear that you can be wrong (guilty) and this is never true.
Healing seems to take time, so I ask you to allow healing as if it is a process. Expect that hidden beliefs will continue to be uncovered and as they are, they will be dropped. Until then, some of what you do certainly comes from hidden beliefs. But this isn’t to be judged. This simply is as it is.
Your job is to focus on your desire and trust all things as they are now. If you are continually focused on your desire to heal, to awaken or to surrender, this desire is arranging your life in perfect order. You can trust this without expecting to understand it. And things will come up or be exposed, and the others are still a part of the flow you are following, but that is ok. You are still following the flow to the place we call Home, which is an awareness that is not covered by fear or misperception.
Question: Once more question. How do we know when to say “yes” to everything and when to step up and say “no.” How do we know if our “no” is guidance, or if “no” is our way of clinging to the ego.
Answer: I do guide through “no,” but in the case of my guidance, “no” is a direction rather than resistance. It is like a gentle turning of the body saying, “Ok. Now walk this way instead of that.”
If you feel a strong resistance to something, it is better to look at your resistance with Me. Do not feel that you have to say “yes” when you have a strong resistance [you may not be fully ready at the time] but do not deny that the circumstance has uncovered resistance that needs to be seen. Be grateful that the situation has arisen to show you a resistance. Ask Me for My help, and give willingness to be led so that the resistance may be let go.
We don’t need heroes on the path of awakening. You don’t need to throw yourself into a situation you are not ready for. But it is most helpful if you let hidden fears and beliefs be uncovered, and then continually give your willingness that they be healed.
Question: Any last words about guidance?
Answer: Notice My words have been less about what you are to do and more about what you need to see and release. Your concern is about what to do, but that is of much less importance than the job of seeing and releasing.
Be willing to see and release. Be willing to follow My guidance. Trust all things and be happy that you are healing. Everything else will take care of itself naturally.
